In a world that is disconnected, distracted, and disillusioned, I believe in the importance of stories, of art, of everyday miracles, and most of all – a deep connection with nature. We live in a modern age that celebrates ‘hacks’ and ‘grind,’ we’re so busy with distraction and the next shiny thing that we’re forgetting who we were meant to be – individuals intricately connected to one another through nature, spirit, and energy. A life that is purposeful and in harmony with the universe.
Experiencing moments that allow us to be present in nature – to watch the flight of a butterfly, to see the beauty in beams of sunlight as they break through the canopy of leaves, to witness the soft dance of tall grasses in the wind. I recently re-read Braiding Sweetgrass, in which author Robin Wall Kimmerer beautifully weaves together science and indigenous wisdom to share stories of nature illustrating that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. She speaks of the generosity of Mother Earth and the reciprocity needed to live a life in harmony with her.
Through this lens I’m better able to understand my need for long walks in nature – the appreciation of small, beautiful moments – a sunrise, a bird singing, a deer crossing my path, the cool breeze rushing through the trees. These are moments in which I remember, in which I allow myself to feel the connection to it all. The earth is generous indeed, in these quiet moments, with nothing but my own thoughts and spirit as a guide, I find clarity and peace.
